I’m so excited you’re here!
Welcome to At Home on Main Street. This is a place for creativity, DIY, practical and amazing design, to connect with fellow travelers and Disney family, and reach new perspectives on life, love, and the world! Let’s do this!
It all started with a girl whose mama made her learn things…
Never in my life did I think I’d become a life-long addict of refurbishing furniture and diy projects when, as a little girl, I was forced to help my mother strip an antique table or “spruce up” a pretty rough looking piece of furniture. But here I am 30+ years later, doing the things and loving the journey! From 1860s solid wood furniture, to 1990s laminate, I’ve seen it and I’ve done it. I’ve learned so much, and each piece teaches me something new (even if it’s that I am more stubborn than an inanimate object).
I’ve learned that crafting isn’t just therapeutic, it can also be economical! Everyone wants that designer home with tons of custom details, but a lot of people just don’t have thousands of dollars to drop on interior design. Believe me, I get it! Perfectly staged homes are incredibly photographable (is that a word? I don’t think that’s a word…). They’re also not terribly realistic. In an era where home design on social media can feel like the equivalent of a perfectly photoshopped model that we all strive to be, and keeping up with the Joneses and trends is the status quo, I know there are those of us who dare to break the mold.
And that’s what I aim for when I’m designing.
Upcycling, hacks and home design when you’re on a restricted budget, or you’re in a rented space that you can’t customize, or you just straight up don’t want to spend a bajillion trillion dollars keeping up with passing design trends. There are so many things you can do to have a beautiful living space that feels like home and boasts your style (without trying to use the lint in your pocket as legal tender)! And that’s what’s most important- having a space that’s YOURS and that you love being in…because it’s HOME. It should give you the warm fuzzies. Because EVERYONE deserves to have a home they’re proud of. And it’s easier than most people think.
Now let’s talk about travel for a minute (or twenty)…
I mean, let’s be real. honest. for a second. If I could, I’d be in my adorable little shasta trailer that I completely remodeled, traveling the country, selling my crafts, and writing about my adventures. Hashtag living the dream. Travel feeds the soul. If it’s doing its job, it unleashes parts of us that we keep locked up in our 8-5 lives. Not just getting away from the day to day grind (which, YAY!), but experiencing places and people…it’s what the good stuff is made of, ya know??
And frankly, my little trailer would be parked at Disney about 7 months out of the year,
because that’s my bread and butter, y’all. It’s a lifetime passion. It’s a complicated relationship with a company that I’ve lived, loved, and laughed with even farther back than I can remember. From my first trip to Disneyland at 6 years old, to realizing the dream of working at the parks in Florida for years, to the laid back visits as an annual passholder and Disney Vacation Club member, like any old married couple, our relationship has evolved through the years. But it’s still love. And I love sharing my passion and insights with people (whether they like it or not. *insert evil giggle snort here*). So let’s rock this journey! But first, I want to connect with you. Have we met yet? Because there is so much more to share than can be contained within the pages of this blog, and I love meeting new people! Subscribe, or click on the links below to connect:
